Nintendo Announces Global Price Increase for Switch 2: Starting September

Nintendo has confirmed a global price revision for the Nintendo Switch 2, set to take effect on September 1, 2026 in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The change follows earlier adjustments already implemented in Japan and reflects ongoing pressures in the hardware market.

In the US, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price rises from $449.99 to $499.99. Canada sees an increase from $629.99 to $679.99, while Europe moves from €469.99 to €499.99. Nintendo stated the revisions respond to “various changes in market conditions” expected to continue over the medium to long term, including component costs and supply-chain challenges linked to broader industry demand for memory and chips.

In-store demo kiosks in the US have already begun displaying the new $499.99 price between sessions, giving shoppers clear advance notice. The original Nintendo Switch family of systems remains unaffected by these particular changes in most Western markets. Nintendo has sold more than 23.6 million Switch 2 units worldwide as of the end of June 2026, though the company has adjusted its future sales forecasts downward slightly in light of the higher pricing.

Fans still have a limited window to purchase at the current price before September 1. Some retailers continue to offer limited-time bundles that include a game, providing extra value during this transition period. Nintendo expressed appreciation for player support while acknowledging the impact the increase may have on customers.

This marks the first major price adjustment for the Switch 2 since its launch and aligns with similar moves seen across the industry from other console and hardware makers facing the same market realities.
