The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition Is Out Now on Modern Platforms

Aspyr just shadow-dropped a proper revival of the 2011 action-RPG.

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition is available today on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 (North America now, Europe August 18), and PC via Steam, Epic and GOG.The game follows a parallel story set during the events of the books and films. You control three heroes — the Dúnedain Ranger Eradan, Elven Loremaster Andriel, and Dwarven Champion Farin — as they fight Agandaûr’s forces in the North while Frodo’s fellowship heads south.

Co-op is still the star: up to three players online or two in local split-screen.

The Legacy Edition adds a bunch of quality-of-life upgrades that make the old game feel current. You can now hot-swap between the three characters on the fly (even in solo play), lock onto enemies, see party health/mana/EXP bars, use autosave, and enjoy gyro support on PlayStation and Switch systems. Performance hits a solid 60 fps on modern hardware (with the original Switch as the expected exception).

It’s priced at $19.99 with a 10 % launch discount through August 24–25, making it an easy grab for anyone who missed the original or wants a co-op Middle-earth romp without spending full-price money.
