Games You Need to Watch in August 2026

August 2026 is stacked. Between big-name sequels, ambitious indies, and a few surprise heavy-hitters, there is something for almost every type of player.

Here are the releases that should be on your radar:

Early August Highlights

Beast of Reincarnation (August 4 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, day-one Game Pass)

Game Freak’s first major non-Pokémon action RPG. You play as Emma and her companion Koo in a world of corrupted ruins.

Real-time combat mixed with strategic commands and a tight parry system has already earned strong early scores (35/40 from Famitsu). Expect a roughly 30-hour adventure with a distinct atmosphere.

Big Walk (August 4 – PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2)

From the creators of Untitled Goose Game. A cooperative “walker-talker” where you and friends simply explore a huge natural world, solve light puzzles, and chat. It is already confirmed as a PlayStation Plus Essential title for the month.

Perfect low-pressure multiplayer.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls (August 6 – PS5, PC)

Arc System Works teams up with PlayStation Studios and Marvel for a 4v4 tag-team fighter.

Eight characters at launch, stylish combat, and online play. Early beta feedback has been very positive, especially around characters like Magik and Spider-Man.

Mid-to-Late August

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam (August 13 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

The large-scale tactical shooter moves from World War II to the Vietnam War. After playtest feedback, the team delayed it from June to lock in quality. Expect the same intense 100-player battles with a completely new setting and weapons.

The Sinking City 2 (August 18 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)
Frogwares returns to Lovecraftian investigative horror. A free demo is already available if you want a taste of the new detective systems and atmosphere.

Mortal Shell 2 (August 20 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

The hardcore action sequel expands into an interconnected open world. Possess new warriors and dive deeper into the dark fantasy combat that made the original stand out.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 (August 25 – PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)
Cold Iron Studios continues the co-op shooter formula with more xenomorphs, new classes, and larger-scale missions.August also brings Madden NFL 27 and several strong indie titles, but the list above represents the games most likely to dominate conversation and playtime. Mark your calendars — the second half of summer is looking excellent.
